Going-to-the-Sun Road Update
As of June 18, 2009
"Goin-to-the-Sun will open to Big Bend on Friday 6-19-09, which is 3 miles below Loagan Pass and the Pass will open soon within days instead of within weeks" according Amy Vanderbilt of Glacier National Park.
The crews are working on the Big Drift ( a drift that started out over 70 feet deep) just east of Logan Pass. The parking lot at the pass has been cleared and all that is left is to widen the Big Drif and repair some Avalanche damage on the road.
Other Park Roads:
- The Inside North Fork Road is currently
closed at Logging Creek RS and Fish Creek due to
construction. Hiker/biker access is not allowed
during the construction on this section of road.
- The Camas Road is open.
- The Chief Mountain Road is open.
- The Cut Bank Road is open.
- The Many Glacier Road is open.
- The Two Medicine Road is
open.

Glacier National Park "Fee Free"
Weekends
 Department of the Interior Secretary Ken
Salazar recently announced that the NPS will offer
three fee-free weekends this summer, "...to
encourage Americans seeking affordable
vacations to visit these national
treasures."
Glacier National Park, one of 147
NPS sites across the country that charge entry
fees, will waive entrance fees during the weekends
of June 20-21,
July
18-19, and August
15-16, 2009. These fee-free
weekends will be in
addition to other fee-free
days on National Public Lands Day,
September 26, and Veterans Day,
November 11.
Glacier
National Park will offer a separate "Fee Free" day
in conjunction with the park's Centennial Kick-Off
Celebration Picnic in the Park on Sunday, August 23 being held at Lake
McDonald Lodge and Glacier Park Lodge.
